Executive assessment under DIN 33430: what executive assessment must deliver

EXECUTIVE ASSESSMENT · DIN 33430

DIN 33430, the German standard for job-related aptitude assessment, is often reduced to a “testing standard”. That falls short. The standard addresses the entire job-related aptitude assessment process – from planning and requirements analysis through the selection, combination and administration of methods to evaluation, interpretation, forming judgements and the qualifications of those involved.

For top-level assessments, the process is decisive

At CEO, CFO, executive board or managing director level, a single personality or ability test is not enough. The decision must be derived from the specific role. A robust assessment therefore begins with the question: which results, decisions and behaviours make the difference in exactly this context?

Six building blocks of robust aptitude assessment

  1. Clarifying the brief: which decision should the assessment support?
  2. Requirements analysis: what is critical to success in the specific role?
  3. Choice of methods: which methods provide relevant evidence for this?
  4. Administration: standardised enough for comparability, individualised enough for the context.
  5. Evidence integration: several sources of information instead of one dominant single score.
  6. Forming a judgement: a transparent recommendation with strengths, risks and limitations.

Why multi-method is indispensable at C-level

Top-level suitability does not show itself in a single dimension. Track record, leadership behaviour, strategic judgement, stakeholder competence and situational decision-making must be brought together. That is why, depending on the brief, I combine structured interviews, biographical evidence, work samples, references and suitable psychometric methods.

Personal qualification

I am trained and certified in management and executive assessments. This training forms the personal diagnostic foundation; DIN 33430 serves as the quality framework for the structure of the assessment and the traceability of the judgement.

Digital support – but no black box

My own digital assessment infrastructure supports role blueprint, structured interviews, executive work samples, evidence matrix, reporting and quality monitoring. The software structures evidence; the personnel decision remains with people. Validated employment use will only be fully released for use after psychometric validation, norming, fairness analysis and governance approval have been completed.
