Leadership Advisory · Executive Sparring

Leadership advisory for decisions that cannot be delegated.

The greater the responsibility, the smaller the circle in which decisions can be discussed openly – while their consequences grow. Leadership advisory creates an independent space in which roles, options, consequences and blind spots are examined in a structured way – without an internal agenda and without operational interests.

I work with managing directors, C-level executives, owners and boards on situations in which an additional independent perspective improves the quality of decisions.

Typical questions

  • Role clarification for CEO, CFO, managing director or executive board
  • Preparing succession and handover
  • Collaboration within the leadership team
  • Reallocating responsibility after growth or transformation
  • Dealing with performance, conflict or trust issues at leadership level
  • Sparring before critical personnel and organisational decisions
  • Assessing external and internal candidate options

Advice does not begin with a method

With complex leadership questions, it is tempting to start immediately with models, assessments or workshops. Often, however, something else is needed first: formulating the actual decision clearly. What should change? Which consequences are consciously accepted? Which assumptions are evidenced – and which are merely habit?

Only then can we decide whether Executive Sparring, role clarification, executive search, board work or a combination makes sense.

Independence is part of the service

An external advisor is only valuable if they do not simply confirm what has already been decided. Leadership advisory therefore also means asking uncomfortable questions, making contradictions visible and examining alternatives before a decision becomes expensive or hard to reverse.

This is precisely the link to Board Advisory: good governance and good leadership need clear roles and robust decisions – not as many slides as possible.

When leadership advisory is particularly useful

  • Before a C-level or managing director appointment
  • During transitions between generations of owners and management
  • When a leadership team is being reassembled
  • During transformation, restructuring or strong growth
  • When several plausible options exist but the decision criteria are unclear
  • When internal dynamics make an independent assessment difficult

When sparring is not enough: executive assessment

When a leadership decision is not only to be discussed but supported by a structured assessment, Executive Assessment & Leadership Audit complements the advisory work. This applies in particular to succession, comparisons of internal and external candidates, leadership audits or the assessment of a management team against a new phase of the company.

From advice to implementation

If a specific appointment need emerges from the advisory work, it can be implemented through Executive Search, CEO Search or CFO Search. For planned changes, CEO Succession is the relevant next step.

The sequence is what matters: first clarify the role, then approach the market.

Frequently asked questions

Is leadership advisory coaching?

Not necessarily. The focus is on the specific leadership or organisational decision. Depending on the situation, personal sparring can be part of the work, but the focus remains on the mandate, the role and the corporate context.

Can the advisory work take place without a subsequent search?

Yes. Advisory and search are separate services. A search only follows if there is actually a need for an external appointment.

Whom do you work with?

With managing directors, C-level executives, owners, supervisory and advisory boards and selected senior executives in demanding transition and decision situations.
