Executive Assessment · Leadership Audit · Executive Assessment
Executive assessment & leadership audit for top-level decisions.
Structured assessment of capability and potential for CEO, CFO, managing director, executive board and other critical leadership roles. For selection, succession, management audit and leadership due diligence – requirements-based, multi-method and with DIN 33430 as the quality framework.
It is not the best impression that decides. It is robust evidence.
The more senior the position, the more expensive a wrong decision becomes – and the greater the risk that status, experience or personal presence overshadow the actual question of suitability. Executive assessment creates a structured basis for decisions from the requirements profile, observable behaviour, biographical evidence and – depending on the mandate – further assessment methods.
Typical applications
The diagnostic process
- Clarifying the mandate: Which specific decision should the assessment support?
- Requirements analysis: Which results, competencies and behavioural anchors are truly critical to success in the role?
- Method design: selecting and combining suitable methods instead of one standard test for every situation.
- Delivery: structured interviews, biographical exploration, cases or work samples and other diagnostic elements.
- Evidence integration: observations and results are brought together and weighted against the role requirements.
- Judgement & reporting: a clear statement on fit, risks, development areas and the consequences for the decision.
A mix of methods instead of faith in tests
A top-level assessment is not an online test followed by a score. At C-suite level in particular, diagnostics must reflect the specific role, the corporate context and the decision situation. Depending on the mandate, structured biographical interviews, competency-based interviews, situational tasks, executive work samples, reference checks and valid psychometric instruments can be combined, among others.
What matters is the multi-method evidence logic: no single data source decides. The assessment emerges from the consistent combination of several pieces of evidence against a requirements model defined in advance.
Digital assessment infrastructure
In parallel, I am developing a proprietary digital assessment infrastructure that systematically supports the diagnostic process: from role blueprint and requirements model through structured interviews and executive work samples to the evidence matrix, executive report and quality control.
Important: the software supports diagnostic work and documentation. It does not make automated hire/reject decisions. Validated use in employment decisions will only be fully released once psychometric validation, norming, fairness analysis and governance approval have been completed.
DIN 33430 as the quality framework
DIN 33430 describes quality requirements for job-related aptitude assessment. What matters is not only the choice of individual methods but the entire process: clarifying the mandate, requirements analysis, choice of methods, delivery, evaluation, interpretation, judgement and the qualification of the people involved.
The service is therefore not marketed as a “DIN-certified assessment”. Instead, it is made transparent that the diagnostic architecture is aligned with the quality requirements of DIN 33430 and that the personal assessment qualification stems from training and certification in the assessment process.
Assessment for private equity
In a PE context, the point is not an abstract evaluation of executives, but fit with the investment thesis. A management team can be very well suited to stabilisation and at the same time not have the right combination of capabilities for buy-and-build, internationalisation or exit readiness.
That is why executive assessment is directly linked with Private Equity Advisory, management team assessment and the structured evaluation of leadership risk in private equity – and, if a specific vacancy arises from it, with Private Equity Executive Search.
Keeping assessment and search deliberately separate
An assessment must be able to lead to a robust judgement without a search mandate necessarily following. Only if an external appointment is actually needed does the search begin. This separation protects the independence of the diagnostic recommendation.
Typical results
- a structured executive assessment report,
- an assessment of fit and risk against the role profile,
- a clear evidence base instead of a mere overall judgement,
- development areas and possible derailers,
- comparison of several internal or external candidates,
- a decision recommendation with transparent reservations and limits.
Further assessment insights
- Executive assessment according to DIN 33430 – what executive assessment must deliver.
- Leadership audit and management audit – when the top team should be reviewed systematically.
- Digital aptitude assessment – why software should structure, but not decide.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an assessment centre?
Not necessarily. At top level, an individualised executive assessment is often more appropriate than a standardised group procedure. Design and methods are geared to the role and the decision.
Can an existing management team be audited?
Yes. Leadership audits or management audits can assess individual executives or entire leadership teams against the strategy, transformation or the investment thesis.
Does the software make the personnel decision?
No. The digital infrastructure structures evidence and quality; judgement and the decision remain with people and with the responsible decision-making body.
