Fresenius appoints Marc-Alexander Mahl to the management board

Fresenius is appointing a new Management Board member with responsibility for Fresenius Kabi. Dr Marc-Alexander Mahl becomes a member of the management board of Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA effective 1 November 2026. At the same time, the supervisory board is extending CFO Sara Hennicken’s contract by a further five years to 2032.

Internal succession for Fresenius Kabi

Mahl succeeds Pierluigi Antonelli, who is leaving the company for personal reasons. A physician by training, Mahl has worked for Fresenius for more than 20 years and most recently led Fresenius Kabi’s global MedTech business as Executive Vice President. In his new role, he is responsible on the group management board for all of the business segment’s operations.

Below group level, Sébastien Guery takes overall responsibility for the Nutrition business at Fresenius Kabi. Guery joined Fresenius in 2023 and most recently led the Biopharma business.

Assessment

With Mahl, Fresenius is relying on an internal successor who knows the company and the Kabi portfolio from many years of operational responsibility. The parallel extension of Sara Hennicken’s contract secures continuity in finance while responsibility for the Fresenius Kabi segment is reorganised. What will matter is how the new leadership brings together the growth areas of MedTech, Nutrition and Biopharma and continues implementing the group strategy.
