Executive search for financial services.
Leadership in financial services sits between regulation, technology, profitability, risk and transformation. Banks, insurers, payment service providers and other financial companies therefore need leaders who not only master their function but navigate complex stakeholder and governance structures with confidence.
I lead executive search mandates for C-level and selected senior leadership functions personally – with particular attention to the company’s actual situation, the regulatory context and the role’s change agenda.
Typical appointments in financial services
- CEO, managing director and market responsibility
- CFO and finance leadership
- COO and transformation
- CIO, technology and digital transformation
- Senior-level risk, compliance and governance
- Commercial leadership, payments and platform business
- Selected board and supervisory functions
Regulation changes the requirements profile – but does not replace leadership
In regulated companies, technical and regulatory fit is indispensable. On its own, however, it does not make a successful leader. At the very top, prioritisation, decisiveness, communication with supervisors and boards, transformation capability and the ability to lead complex organisations through change also count.
A good search profile therefore separates must-have criteria from supposed safety features. Not every role needs the same institutional background, and not every successful executive from a large institution is automatically the right appointment for a smaller, faster or more entrepreneurial organisation.
Frankfurt as a talent market – DACH as the search area
Frankfurt is a central hub for banks, supervisors, international institutions, asset management, payments and adjacent financial services. The relevant talent market, however, does not end at the city limits. Depending on the mandate, leaders across the entire DACH region or internationally are considered.
For locally focused searches, see Executive Search Frankfurt & Rhine-Main.
Considering transformation and succession together
Many search mandates do not arise from a simple vacancy, but from a change in the corporate agenda: cost pressure, digitalisation, new regulatory requirements, integration, growth, portfolio changes or succession. In these situations, the role must be defined from the next phase of the business.
For CFO mandates, CFO Search explains the functional approach in more depth. For governance and board questions, Board Advisory takes centre stage.
Discretion and personal responsibility for every engagement
In financial services in particular, successions, changes or reorganisations can be highly sensitive internally and externally. The search process must therefore be not only efficient but controlled. I work with a clear information architecture, targeted direct search and personal responsibility for candidate communication.
Frequently asked questions
Do you only search for candidates from the same sub-sector?
No. Depending on the role, adjacent experience from banking, insurance, payments, fintech, technology or professional services can be useful. What matters is which competencies are genuinely transferable.
How do you deal with regulatory requirements?
They are taken into account in role clarification and defined as clear must-have, should-have or context criteria. This means the candidate market is neither narrowed unnecessarily nor diluted professionally.
Can confidential successions also be supported?
Yes. Confidential search situations are among the typical applications of executive search.
